Suspension and Rear-End Rebuild on a Jensen Interceptor

The Jensen Interceptor, a legendary British grand tourer, came into our workshop showing signs of significant wear in its suspension and rear-end components. Like many classic vehicles, time and mileage had taken a toll on the car’s handling and road feel—issues the owner wanted addressed with care and expertise.

Diagnosis: Worn Joints and Leaky Seals

Upon inspection, our team found:

  • Worn Upper and Lower Ball Joints: These are crucial to the vehicle’s steering geometry and front-end stability. The worn joints were causing excessive play and uneven tire wear.
  • Leaking Rear Hub Seals: Oil seepage from the hub area indicated failing seals, which could lead to contamination of brake components and further rear axle damage.
  • Noisy or Rough Rear Bearings: The bearings were past their service life, causing noise and friction.

Work Performed

Our technicians carried out the following repairs:

  • Upper & Lower Ball Joint Replacement: Removed the old joints and pressed in new high-quality replacements. Inspected and greased suspension arms and ensured proper alignment after fitment
  • Rear Hub Bearing & Seal Replacement: Removed the rear hubs, cleaned all mating surfaces. Installed new bearings and oil seals to restore proper lubrication and prevent future leaks. Reassembled the hubs with correct torque specifications to ensure safety and longevity.

The Outcome

With the new ball joints, bearings, and seals installed, the Interceptor now drives smoothly and handles as a grand tourer should. The steering response is crisp, and rear-end noise and oil leaks are fully resolved.
